Somayeh Mohammadi

Somayeh is a Ph.D. candidate working in the RISE lab. Her research mainly focuses on probabilistic flood hazard assessment of multi-mechanism floods using a Bayesian motivated approach. She has presented her research in professional conferences and workshops including the 6th Annual Probabilistic Flood Hazard Assessment Research Workshop, AGU Fall meeting 2020, The 30th European Safety and Reliability Conference, The 15th Probabilistic Safety Assessment and Management Conference, 5th Annual NRC Probabilistic Flood Hazard Assessment (PFHA) Research Workshop, SRA conference 2019, and 4th Annual NRC Probabilistic Flood Hazard Assessment (PFHA) Research Workshop.

She received her master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from KNTU University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. She has taught multiple courses in civil engineering including hydrology, hydraulics, and fundamentals of wastewater treatment and water distribution systems.

She has diverse professional experiences that contribute to her understanding of the engineering profession. She worked in the industry as an engineer and project manager for five years on projects related to water resources management, water distributions systems, watershed management, and run-off control in urban areas. This experience helped her gain an understanding of the real-world problems in her field of study and affirmed her commitment to solving the real-world problems

She loves traveling and in her free time, she enjoys hiking, painting, writing, and reading poems.
